Psychological Combat Zone

In 1996 the second official Mike Peters album of new solo material was released in the UK and the USA – Feel Free. Included on this was this song that was recorded at Fort Apache, USA in 1995 during the “Original 13 Colonies” Tour. A tour that almost didn’t happen, as that was the point when Mike had just been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and defied doctors’ orders and caught the plane, a faith healer said the colour green was healing so Mike hit the army surplus store and the fatigues were worn. So fast forward to 2009 and we discover that Feel Free was not the album that Mike originally planned, instead the first cut and recordings at Fort Apache were to form an album called Psychological Combat Zone. Though the original song on Feel Free was from this session it is noticeable that the new “old” album version was a minute longer as it appears the second time

Lyrics

You say something and I say what?
You say I’m not listening then you shut up
If I say I’m sorry you say that’s not enough
You take my messages you don’t tell me
You spit in my food and you stew my tea
I still drink it all just to spite you with disease
Supermarkets have groceries
Lovers have fights, petty jealousies
you want all my money but I’ve never got enough
I’m picking up the pieces. Fending off diseases
Tearing up the treaties, trying to tune my T.V.
Man it’s a jungle a concrete jungle
Fumble tumble gonna get rumbled
You’d better run if you don’t wanna get done
You’d better learn the truth
Somebody’s gonna drug you
Ask you Why? What? Where and with Whom?
You’ve committed no crime
You’re going done the prison line
Siege mentality won’t get you nowhere
You can sit on the fence
But you’ll get a parking ticket
Write letters of complaint
But one day you must pay
Well some call it love baby, some call it a joke
When I get home it’s a Psychological Combat Zone
