World On Fire – (Song)

While we were in LA prior to UCLA show in California during April 1986, Eddie MacDonald and I were invited to Paramount Film Studios to view a rough cut of the film Ferris Beuller’s Day Off. Paramount were looking to commission a soundtrack album of brand new material and asked us to write a song for the film. We wrote World On Fire as a response and recorded what we all thought was a brilliant demo of the song in a small studio in Hollywood. Before we could submit the track, the project was scrapped in favour of a soundtrack featuring current hits. We decided to carry the song in to the Hurricane sessions but when we came to record the song proper, rather than record a new more Alarm-sounding arrangement with real drums etc, we tried to stick too closely to the feel of the demo. In the end the version we cut did not sound as good as it should and when Miles suggested leaving it off the album, we all agreed with him – Mike Peters – The Alarm 2000 collection sleeve notes
