Lyrics ~ Edward Henry Street

1, I was running with the Backhanders
From the Mona to the Mermaider’s
From the East End to the West Parader’s
Through the car park and up the stairs
You can forget all your troubles, forget all of your cares
I’m going up Downtown
I’m going up Downtown
Going up Downtown

[In the nineteen seventies]
I met the Twist in there one New Year’s Eve
I said let’s start a band and sound like Lou Reed
I was all dressed up to look like David Bowie
I met a Bryan Ferry lookalike a Blow Monkey
You can forget all your troubles, forget all of your cares
I’m going up Downtown
I’m going up Downtown
Going up Downtown
Wooo

[In the nineteen eighties]
I met the girl with the unusual name in there
You can forget all your troubles, forget all of your cares

I’m going up Downtown
Going up Downtown
Going up Downtown
I’m going up Downtown
I’m going up Downtown
Wooo

(Downtown where all the lights are bright
Downtown waiting for you tonight
Downtown)
